About GEMDAS® Educational Services, LLC
GEMDAS® was started in 2007 by award-winning Teacher of the Year Lora Kermode when she made the very difficult decision to leave a tenured teaching position in an inner-city school district she absolutely loved to embark on her mission: to bring positivity to more classrooms, to make math easy and fun, and to help students and adults overcome their math phobias.
Lora Kermode has broad experience educating students in inner-city public schools, including teaching ninth-grade Algebra to students in a Title One high school in the Los Angeles area. The students she taught with the techniques were consistently the top performers within the school based on district benchmark data.
She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including Teacher of the Year in 2005 and the prestigious Governor’s Teaching Fellowship in 2001.
Kermode has mentored new and veteran teachers and has experience as a Support Provider for the Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) Program. She has collaborated with department members to develop standards-based pacing guides and was appointed as a Team Leader for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation process. Further, Kermode has served on the national Curriculum Advisory Board for Corinthian Colleges.
Kermode successfully utilized the GEMDAS® Algebra Success® strategies and visual aids she developed to motivate students who previously scored Below Basic and Far Below Basic on standardized testing in Algebra to outperform students statewide. After starting GEMDAS® Educational Services, LLC in 2007, Kermode now conducts workshops for teachers, students, and parents nationally and internationally in this revolutionary approach to Algebra. Teachers have been inspired to implement the strategies they learn in the training immediately in classrooms. Students are benefiting from these cutting-edge strategies, as GEMDAS® Trained Educators utilize these techniques to foster motivated, proficient, and successful students throughout the country and abroad.
